Bernard Tay : 1960

Bernard Ezra is a very pleasant, patient and knowledgeable Fitness and Nutrition coach. He is also a great and understanding friend. He demonstrated through his own body fitness and food management getting into a very good shape. I have benefitted much through his coaching in strength training, flexibility, mobility exercises and others. From day one since joining him, I have improved in my overall physical mobility, flexibility and strength. He is very detailed and committed to help you in the area of your weakness, and work through with you, the forms and the correct way of doing it.

He will give you various options of doing the specific exercise according to your fitness and mobility at the current status. Overall, my physical fitness has improved, my strength has increased. Weight issue and perception of beautiful weight (waistline) is always my constant struggle since young. It is a merciless struggle in my pre-teen while coping with poor health however I broke through the cycle during my teenage hood with massive marching, uniform group activities and skipping meals to achieve the ideal weight of my perception. Thinking it was over but motherhood and aging again bring me back to the cycle..

I had tried many ways such as slimming center, food replacement, slimming pills, crush diets, going to the weekly gym but nothing seem to be sustainable and pleasurable like my lifestyle until I get to know Ezra personally.

Our exercise regime started off with objectives to prepare graceful aging and focus to ensure our joints and mobility are good. For all I know, I am too proud to imagine ageing comes with wheelchair and losing dignity to do what I use to do. The objective was clearly laid down positively and no guilt nor embarrassment when I can’t achieve the stretch or strength to carry out the workout. I started off with weekly pain (muscles aches) and gradually becomes a pleasure that I look forward to ‘repair’ the body from the desk bound mill worker syndrome!

Ezra is patience and never uses the lens of why I am not working harder on my own time or why am I indulging in empty calories. He is subtle in his coaching style and helps me to learn new habit of eating right and to sustain the eating habit as part of my lifestyle. In fact, we do share good food (still tasty healthy stuff!) and eating together after our workout.

I am still work in progress to increase my cardio exercise frequency; however, my lifestyle has changed. I am more intentional to incorporate more steps in my daily activities, carry my groceries instead of wheeling them and climbing more steps than using lift. Today, I can squat better than any of my colleagues, do lunges, split squad, has stronger muscles at areas that we most neglected and much fitter in mobility and strength.

It is my investment towards aging gracefully and Ezra has made it happened and sustainable for my journey!

Siew Beng : 1959

Siew Beng I joined Chin Chau’s exercise group in April 2021 amidst the COVID restrictions. Starting through Zoom before going on site after the restrictions were lifted.

After my retirement in 2019, my main activities to improve my health is walking and running. Joining Chin Chau’s group exercise programme helped me to develop my fitness to another level with improvement to my overall muscle strength, flexibility as well greater dietary awareness. One key observation is that while we exercise as a group with each having different fitness levels, Chin Chau is able to pay personal attention to correct our technique/posture and more importantly, adapt each exercise to the different levels so that we are sufficiently challenged without getting any injury.

I always look forward to his training sessions as it’s always very enjoyable and motivating with a happy sense of achievement at the end of each session!

Wee Chong : 1964

Wee Chong - Before

Back in 2017 when I was 53 years old, I was “slightly” over-weight at a trim 105 kg with a size 42-inch waist. After the age of 30, I put on an average of 1.5 to 2 kg each year, despite been active and trying a lot of different diets. My health issues included high blood pressure of 145 over 95. Like a lot of my friends at that age, my philosophy in life back then was there’s nothing much we can do and just to let nature takes its course and live life to the fullest. Fast forward to today and I have made tremendous improvement in both my weight and health issues. Recently, when I met some friends who hadn’t seen me in a while, they couldn’t help but notice the significant weight loss I had achieved. It was evident that a few of them even held a concern that I might be battling a serious illness, although they were too polite to inquire directly. I want to assure everyone that there is no need to worry.

The reason behind my transformation is quite straightforward. In early 2017, my childhood friend Chin Chau asked me out for breakfast. Breakfast soon became lunch and we spent 3 or 4 hours talking. Little did I know that this casual outing would turn into a transformative journey and be life-changing. Chin Chau spent a lot of time explaining his health and wellness programme. But back then, I was very resistant, I was too “busy” to exercise.

Wee Chong - After

Let’s be honest – I was absolutely lazy! Thankfully, Chin Chau did not give up. Initially, it was just tweaking my diet by cutting sugar and reducing processed food and carbs. I was amazed that I lost 5kg in the 1st month! I was very motivated and started speaking with Chin Chau whenever we could. I discovered that there’s so much we have misunderstood on basic nutrition, exercise, even on the importance of sleep and overall wellness. I am happy to report that today, I have lost at least 35 kg and 11 inches off my waist, and my blood pressure is in the low range (110 over 70).

I have never felt healthier or stronger in a long time. I am very glad and grateful that up to today, Chin Chau is still helping me and a small group of friends who joins him for calisthenics and weight training every week.
